Shoe sizes?

When you buy shoes, do you make sure they fit exactly, like the big toe is touching the front end. Or do you wear something slightly bigger, like your toe has an inch of space. I'm talking specifically for shoes you wear for sports e.g running

I'd get ones with a snug fit. Once you break them in they will fit looser, so if you bought a larger one, there's going to be even more space and then it will be too loose.
Reply:A little larger, and I buy at the end of the day when my feet are expanded as large as they're going to be.
Reply:You want to shop later in the day, as your feet spread out and fluid settles into them throughout the day. You want there to be good support around your heel and ankles, and leave about 1/2" between your big toe and the front of the shoe. That way, when you jump or land on your foot and they squoosh out a bit, you won't be jamming your foot inside the shoe. Naturally this is a little different if you're still growing - then you want to leave more room so the shoes fit longer.
