Yesterday, I had to lift my school bag (not very heavy, only a couple of books), my sports bag (Sport uniform, shoes, water and a towel), my electric guitar ( 6kg, 13 pounds) and my amplifier (7kg, 15 pounds) and it weigh in total aprox. 17kg. I am 13 years old and I am 5'6 and i weigh 57kg. I had to carry all those things during school time, in total, there is 8 hours of school time, 45 per lesson and 3 minutes to walk from class to class. In total i had to carry these things about 100 meters (328 feet). i had swimming the last classes.
My question is:
Can u stunt ur growth, shrink a bit, or damage a growth plate or cause scoliosis?
Can this have damaged, broken or block my growth plates?
Will i continue growing?
I do sports a lot and i had swimming to relax after. Today, i didn't feel any pain. and i did not have scoliosis. What do u think?
Can this affect my growth?
No. Don't be such a wimp. It's not going to stunt your growth, give you scoliosis and you did NOT break, damage or block (block? where did you get that ridiculous idea?) your growth plates. I've never heeard anything so silly before.
And do you really think that lifting that during one day and suddenly you'd wake up with scoliosis?? LOL Kiddo, please go do kid things and be 13 and stop worrying about such silly things that aren't going to happen.
Reply:consider it a workout. As long as you are using correct posture when carying all these items, you are building your trapezius muscles up and you arms.
Reply:It can't cause scoliosis, but it CAN damage the soft tissue between your vertibrae if you do this EVERY DAY. Can't you leave some of those items in a locker or something?
Reply:No you're pretty safe. You sound like a strong kid, 5'6 average weight. You can handle carrying around books no problem. I'm carpenter and if you want to talk about heavy lifting come to me!
Strong physical labour has been known to increase your stamina and muscle strength...this is a relatively positive thing as it makes you have a stronger core. Just make sure you stretch after you excerise and eat well. Drinking and doing drugs will stunt your growth so stay away from them!
Reply:It can't cause that much damage to your back...i'm not sure but it might slow down the rate at which you grow. But the worst thing you are doing is putting too much stress on your back which in turn gives you a lot of backaches...am i right?
Reply:no
Reply:Just make sure you have a good back-pack to carry that stuff in., it will balance out.
I would go with Eastpak.
Reply:You're young and healthy you'll be fine.
Reply:you should be fine hun... just make sure you dont over do it.
