Last year, I played field hockey at my school. It was pretty fun, I was pretty decent at it. My coach wants to play me in different positions next season because she thinks I'd do pretty good in a better defensive position. I promised her I would play again, and I'm not backing out on this promise.
Now, my band teacher is the marching band conductor, and he's totally awesome. He's a pleasure to be around, and I kind of want to be a part of something, a part of those group of kids who experience all this stuff together. Except, my sister was in marching band when she was my age, and it was ok for her, until she got tired of the long practices in the sun and the total committence and stuff. Now, I wouldn't mind committing a lot to marching band, but the rehearsals and competitions are the same days after school that field hockey practices are. My band teacher says that they work around sports, that I could go to the important rehearsals (Thursdays and Tuesdays) and go to (continued...)
Clear your mind before reading and answering this question, and put yourself in my shoes, ok?
Life is short in high school. heck, in any school. Do what makes you happy. If I put myself in your position, I would do both. If the teacher and coach are willing to work with you, take advantage of it and enjoy it. Band is cool but so are sports. Never regret not doing anything thing. The only way that wont happen is by doing.
Good luck!
Reply:I think you should do both - if you think you'd enjoy doing both, and if the teacher/coach is willing to work out a schedule in order for you to do both, then go for it! :D
Reply:OK here is what I think. Give it a try, talk to your parents about the committment issues because they want you to try new things but not over extend yourself. Set up a plan and a date where if they feel or you feel like its too much you will leave one for now.
Then talk to your coach and band leader about doing both. That you want to give it a try, and are they willing to enure you can do both.
