I am a computer professional. I joined new office few months back. In the new office , there is carpet on the floor. My place is surrounded by computer machines.
In the office , as soon as I touch a metal component or any of my colleague , I get a kind of electric shock. Sometimes the intensity is similar to actual electric shock .
Same thing is not happening with any other colleague. At my home or in my old office place(which was also surrounded by computers, carpet and chairs and etc), I never came across such problem.
I want to know, is there any negative impact of such electric shocks/static current on the health? Also what is the reason behind this? I tried by wearing sports shoes/leather shoes. But all in vain. How can I get rid of such kind of shocks?
Static electric current in Human body.?
That's because you rub your feet across the carpet. When you rub your foot across the carpet, your shoe and the carpet become charged. The electrons(negative charge) in the carpet flow through your shoes. So you become negatively charged. When you touch a colleague or machine(which are neutral), the electrons are attracted by the protons-like charges repel, unlike charges attract-, so they flow to it rapidly and you feel a shock. It would be good if you could walk barefoot in the office or with a sock :) or you could just ask them to remove the carpet.
Reply:Yep use a metal object that will discharge any electric current.
Reply:It arises from your shoes. The shoe material builds up a static charge from walking across the floor material. Try shoes with a different sole material, or simply discharge the static buildup by bringing a metal object (such as a pen or key) close to a grounded metal object. The charge is not harmless, but is annoying if you don't use metal to discharge it.
Reply:well there is no problems and if there were theyd be insignificant well the air is very dri right now and the carpet creat static build up but you dont have to worry at all i dont have any soloutions but you could like discharge the charge by grouding it i assume u know what that is if you dont all you do is touch something metal that is connected to the ground or get shoes made outa like some supper rubber but honestly besides it being a bit anoying it shouldnt kill you
