Is there some way to get stink out of sneakers?

My son plays basketball, but I'm not talking about natural foot odor. At this point I'm talking about several new pairs of sports shoes we got him, that have this weird, sort of disgusting rubbery smell. I had a pair of women's KEDS sneakers ordered over the internet that arrived in the same condition. I don't remember shoes stinking BEFORE you even get a chance to use them....is there anything that can be done? Thanks!

All rubber shoes have this smell when they are new, usually it just goes away on it's own after wearing for a week or two, you can deodorize them after wearing by sprinkling in some Baking Soda or crumpling up a sheet of Newspaper and stuffing it in the shoes overnight when using baking soda just empty out in the morning, newspaper can be removed in the morning or before wearing or you can use a combination of both for added odor removal, just make sure to remove the baking soda before wearing

While wearing you can sprinkle a little fresh baking soda in the shoes if desired to help cut down foot odor and help keep the shoes drier it is also a good idea to powder the feet before wearing shoes, recommended also is alternating shoes daily to help keep shoes fresher and cleaner longer this also helps bacteria to die by allowing the shoes to dry out which helps cut down odors

Also have a little patience with new shoes before the rubbery odor disappears I highly recommend this idea

Try adding some Fabric softner sheets to each shoe to help freshen and deodorize the shoes when shoes are not in use

Good Luck !

Reply:Have you tried sprinkling baking soda in the shoes, lacing them up and let them sit overnight?Scented fresh cat litter works the same as the baking soda. Try tucking a new dryer fabric softener sheet in the shoes, and leave overnight, remember to remove the sheet, before using.
Reply:The shoes you ordered made from cheap plastic that came from China, it could be very toxic rubber that they used, my wife bought a pair but never use she has to junk it, you just can't get rid of that disgusting smell, buy a reputable brand.
Reply:You can actually put some shoes in the washer, but I'd recommend letting them air dry. Just make sure to wring them out a bit, so they don't get a funky smell from not drying well.
Reply:pour some bi carbonated soda into them and leave them over night, the soda will difuse any smell in there
Reply:try pouring in a good amount of baking soda and let them sit over night. That works for my sons.
Reply:shoe deoderant
Reply:try airing them out and febreeze.
