OK...im doin this big english project on greek gods. And my teacher gave us this sheet about everything we need to do. And i have been searching for this for a long long time now...and im getting really annoyed. Well..it says i need to find commercial products, services, paintings, sculptures, modern stories, poems, plays, novels, movies, TV, and music that are named or based on a Greek God or Goddesses....do you have any ideads? Like for example...Nike the the sport shoes are named after Nike the Greek God...
Big English project on Greek Gods...?
Mercury (car company) is named after Hermes the Greek Messenger God. (Mercury is his Romen Name.) Dodge has a car called Ares, after the God of war. Poseidon and The Poseidon Adventure were movies about a cruise ship named Poseidon after the God of the Sea. Movies about Greek Myths and/or Gods include: Troy, Clash of the Titans, Jason and the Argonauts. The film O Brother Where Art Thou is loosely based on Homer's Odyssey. I'll try to think of some more and add them. The play, The Frogs is based on the story of Dionysus.
Reply:Nike is a good start. Also there is the Disney version of the movie Hercules, also a few real life television shows about him (features other Greek gods/goddesses as well).
There are many companies as well as everything you listed out there with Greek god/goddess names/references - I don't know off hand, try google and type in each name with each of the things you listed above. Really use google to your advantage as well use your family and relatives and neighbors, ask them if they know of anything that would be a good example for you.
Names of towns are good too, I live in Athens so I bet there are towns out there named after the gods/goddesses. I don't know if your teacher wants the roman translation as well, or if at all, but if he/she does then use those too, the roman gods are exactly the same as the Greek just with different names.
Good luck!
