Where can i buy 70's running shorts? (not online please)?

Am I tall for my age and any methods for predicting final height?
I'm 5'6 and recently turned 12. I weigh 107 (sounds big but I am really skinny and somewhat muscular from all of my sports) Anyways, my shoe size is 11 and my sitting height is 30 inches. Am I tall for my age and is there anyway to estimate my final height?
Am I tall for my age and any methods for predicting final height?
With that shoe size you will definitely be popular with the ladies. You only turned 12 and you are already 5'6" .. doesn't matter if you are skinny .. has nothing to do with final height. Total guess .. but I bet you make it to 6' or 6' 3". Good Luck ! :)
Reply:You are pretty tall for your age. At that size, if your parents are approximately your current height, you will be about 6'3. If they are taller, you probably will be taller too. You are lucky! My friend is fourteen and he is 4'10. lol
Reply:Well your just a little tall for your age but that's okay because girlalways have the growth spurt first. So your probably going to end up being 5'10 or 11.

How to dress?
Ok, I'm 25, male, and about to graduate; Its time to start dressing like an adult. I need to know all the rules for how to dress, not really for work, but how to dress with style. I'd like to wear nice cloths but still maintain a casual or business casual look. Button ups, sport coats, leather shoes etc. When I dress nicely now I often get the feel that I'm overdressing, and the cloths don't look natural on me. Thats important, i want to look comfortable. anyway, is there a good website with detailed rules, tips suggestions etc about how to go about matching the right shirts with the right pants/ties/shoes etc etc.
How to dress?
I admire that you want to look good and like an adult. Usually its the other way around lol.
One thing about dressing nice, is that there are gonna be days where you're gonna wanna wear casual clothes, and you can definitely do that without looking like a teen. Ditch the shirts that say stuff on them and go for solid tees. Of course, keep college shirts, but definitely get rid of ones that say obnoxious things. Here are some high quality, amazing t shirts that look very mature, are super comfortable, and still have style http://store.americanapparel.net/men-sho...
Here's a fashion styleing site for men: http://www.mensflair.com/
Oh and make sure to not change everything about your style. Thats most likely why you dont feel completely comfortable in dressier clothing. Wear converse shoes with a dressier coat.. whatever it is to make you feel comfortable and at ease in great looking clothes!
Reply:Wow! I have a good suggestion for you.
For a more casual look, try pairing up a pullover hoodie like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/11...
with dress jeans and leather shoes, or you can even pair it up with khakis. It looks fantastic in my opinion. Be sure to wear a plain t shirt under to keep it casual.
For a dressier look, black and white are your best bet. Black shoes, black dress pants, and white dress shirts always pair up nicely together.
My favorite look is that of Riley Poole's (Justin Bartha) in National Treasure. He always keeps his look dressy, yet casual. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s125/...

If you really want to, you can also invest in a wool peacoat. It looks excellent. Converse are also nice. A good teacher I knew used to wear chucks everyday.
Best of luck!
Reply:try askmen.com but try to google for more websites
Reply:i see you like metallica... i ******* love metallica but ummm i just wear jeans that dont go below my shoes and not baggy below my *** and a nice button up shirt or just a nifty tshirt

While running my ankles almost lock up. I have high arches. Some help please?
I bought running shoes from a sports shop, that were suggested to me, but they really aren't helping.
While running my ankles almost lock up. I have high arches. Some help please?
I have been running for 8 years now. Did you get the shoes through a running-specific store like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC? If not, they can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. Good luck!!!

Shoul i get no show socks for camp? or ankle? r they ok for guys? IF i where crew will i be teased?
Im goin to camp. Its very hot. Not to much woods. Canoe trips (gym shoes required. No other shoes). Lots of sports. Also tell me if u like ankles, no show or other and why.....if ur bored http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tx4yd5TsaUc
Shoul i get no show socks for camp? or ankle? r they ok for guys? IF i where crew will i be teased?
too bad someone asked this EXACT question last night
who teases another person for the kind of socks they wear? that person needs to find a freakin hobby.
Reply:I prefer ankle socks if I am wearing shorts because it doesn't show a tanline as much as if i wore higher socks. But it also depends on your preference.
Reply:You might want to consider ankle socks if you have low top shoes. It can also apply to high top shoes. It's always best to hide your socks if your wearing shorts with tennis shoes. You don't wanna look like a nerd. You also wanna wear black ones it you have dark shoes. Never wear white shoes with black socks or vise versa. This is a fashion NO NO!
My brother and husband also wear ankle socks so son't feel bad. Wear what's comfortable for you.

Theyre GREAT! I just bought them off shoecity.com, a 12" in chocolate for only $53! and Im normally an 8 1/2, but the nines I got are sort of big, so get an 8. They are SUPEr warm and VERY cute and cozy! :] They have FREE shipping and came at my door in three days :]
Oh, and heres 1-4
1. The stores are all basically out of them :[ Because the sold out of them about 2 months ago [thats what a woman at famous footwear told me]
2.www.shoecity.com!!! WAYYY cheaper
3. get an 8 :] Im usually an 8 1/2 sneaker, so I got 9's and theyre a bit big, so go get the 8s
4. They most likely sold out of them a while ago, atleast in my area they did :]

Reply:I think Lady Foot Locker has the boots in stores. But I would call ahead just to make sure. As for online, I bought mine in chocolate at www.shoecity.com. I'm usually an 8-81/2 too so I bought a 9 and it fits pretty well. I didn't wanna go smaller in case they were too small so I guess it depends on the person's foot in they'll be ok or not.
They're warm, I really like mine they look exactly like uggs. When I went to the doctor for a physical she had to check my reflexes and she was like "why don't you look all warm with your uggs on and everything" haha

Do humans think too much?
Where we came from, where we're going, what's the meaning, etc etc....
When you see a beautiful man, or woman, or pair of shoes or a sports car, you just think 'Wahey!' and appreciate it. It seems humans cannot be the same regarding their own existence.
(I realise a pair of shoes and life are slightly removed from one another...)
Does anyone agree with me, or wish to elaborate?
Please no answers that belittle my intelligence or viewpoint, it's just an open-minded and reflective question which I don't mean to offend by any stretch of the imagination.
Do humans think too much?
Some of them don't think enough, never mind too much.
Reply:I think once you have satisfied all your basic needs - food , shelter, status etc. then we seem to change as beings and look for the next big thing.
Reply:Yes!!
Thinking to much = Schizophrenia
But then again...thats what seperates us from the ''animals''
Wait, did someone already say that?
Reply:Of course we think too much. We question, we ponder. But just remember: You can doubt anything, if you think about it long enough.
Reply:Maybe. I have found that people who just except things tend to be happier.
Reply:Maybe a question should only be asked if its reason for being asked is purposeful to deliver a positive result - if not, why not just let it be.
The human existance is such an amazingly vast and complex existance that the individuality of each ones own questioning becomes lost. We are always going to intellectualise certain situtions as we have the temporal lobes and I have always thought how peacful the animal kingdom is with their relatively smaller and more simple brain arrangement. Animals exist by accepting 'what is' and 'what isnt' they accept that one action brings a reward and another brings no reward. Oh to be a dog.(except not to be one if I have to do the bum thing)
I believe we humans have gotten the priorities and boundaries confused with when and why to question. Not everything needs to have a label of recognition does it. Why can't it just be!?
Reply:Of course humans think too much!
We will never find the truths to all our questions, so the answers live within our imaginations.
I think (ha ha) thinking is a fabulous thing! What do you think?
(What a fab question )
Reply:some really think too much but don't be one. For in this world u have some 'Troubles', when u worry u make it 'Double', don't worry, be happy.
Reply:The problem is some humans think too much and some dont think at all. No one is in between as Nietzsche suggested
Reply:i believe we do.
we question what we can not understand or may never find the answer to.
but if we didnt ask the questions we'd still be living in the stone ages.
the ability to question and then go on to find the answer (even if only on a personal level ie. some believing their faith is why they exist) is what makes us human. without the power to question whats the point to knowledge?
Reply:you could have a good point...but cant you edit your question slighty, pointing out that men dont think atall and women have to think for both?!!
Reply:i know that WOMEN THINK TO MUCH if women were to spend less time thinking and more time cleaning the home,,,then society would be much better,,,,,
Reply:Can a person think too much? Yes, of course, if it affects the quality of their life detrimentally. Apart from that, it is 'human nature' to think about why we are here, to seek a reason for that and to draw conclusions from those thoughts. It would be easier perhaps, if we were able to live our lives in the way you describe with your example - to be unquestioning and just enjoying the moment. As human beings, we have the ability to do both, to search for meaning and to just enjoy without questioning. Interesting, isn't it?
Reply:You proved your own point - you think too much.
You want to try and belittle other people for their thinking but cannot stop yourself from your own thinking and belittling others.
Would you really care that that the pair of shoes you buy would have been put together by slave labour probably underage slave labour?
Would you care that your gas guzzling sports car would be damaging the environment so much that human existence would be endangered, if not in this generation then certainly in future generations?
Would you really care if you had some mindless sexual relationship with someone and later broke up their family?
Well I guess from your comments - the answers to above would be No.
In your life there is no meaning to anything and everything is for the sole exploitation by the strong and to hell with the weak or poor?
You think that everything you see and experience came about by some random chance event, yet you cannot help attributing designer labels to everything from a little watch to a big car, or something as insignificant as underwear . The only problem you have is if someone says that God created anything.
You want to exploit any and everything but want to stop others from acting with kindness, compassion and respect towards others.

Job INterviw- Shoe Store?
i have a job interview today at 300 at the shoe store Champs Sports. i need some last minture advice. what should totally awesome customer service mean? how would i be a good sales person? What are qualities that salespersons possess?
Job INterviw- Shoe Store?
- You are an enthusiastic person (smile, eye contact too)
- You don't let anything in your personal life interfere with your work
- You know that working hard and being able to work in a team is very important.
- Excellent customer service depends on the customer you are serving but you will always serve them to the best of your abilities. You think these situations can always be dealt with if you are patient, listen to what they are saying and prioritise.
Reply:Thats a sales job, so they are looking for people that get along well with other people. You should know your product, or be willing to learn a lot about it. And be able to communicate well with people to find out what they need and what you have that can meet their needs.
Just think about what kind of sales person you would like to meet in a store. Someone who is positive and polite, who speaks well, and who knows the products. If someone comes in and asks "whats the best basketball shoe for me?" you should know the answer, or be able to direct them to someone else in the store who does know.

What is the best shoe for fibromyalgia sufferers?
I have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis and my legs and feet burn from pain. I have tried many different shoes and they work for awhile and then stop. I would like some input from others on the most cushioned shoes both casual, sport and dress.
What is the best shoe for fibromyalgia sufferers?
are you sure you don't have Gout too??
i like New Balance (for wider feet)
very comfortable, buy the Best
Reply:A shoe with a cushioned sole . with plenty of toe room. And you don't want a totally flat sole, nor do you want one that puts all your weight on the front part of your foot.

Shoe sizes?
When you buy shoes, do you make sure they fit exactly, like the big toe is touching the front end. Or do you wear something slightly bigger, like your toe has an inch of space. I'm talking specifically for shoes you wear for sports e.g running
Shoe sizes?
I'd get ones with a snug fit. Once you break them in they will fit looser, so if you bought a larger one, there's going to be even more space and then it will be too loose.
Reply:A little larger, and I buy at the end of the day when my feet are expanded as large as they're going to be.
Reply:You want to shop later in the day, as your feet spread out and fluid settles into them throughout the day. You want there to be good support around your heel and ankles, and leave about 1/2" between your big toe and the front of the shoe. That way, when you jump or land on your foot and they squoosh out a bit, you won't be jamming your foot inside the shoe. Naturally this is a little different if you're still growing - then you want to leave more room so the shoes fit longer.

That way, when you jump or land on your foot and they squoosh out a bit, you won't be jamming your foot inside the shoe. Naturally this is a little different if you're still growing - then you want to leave more room so the shoes fit longer.

Would it work okay if I taped the Nike + iPod Sport Kit to my shoe/foot instead of going out and buying nikes?

Morning is my favorite time of the day, usually wake up around 6:30 on weekdays and 8 on weekends and my favorite subject is math. I like Autumn more than any seasons. Barnes and Nobles is my favorite stores and ice-skating is my favorite sport. I am a electronic freak and own many mp3s. I dont like ipod because I think it is over-priced. I dont drink soda much and I use mechanical pencils more than pens. I dont have any pet cause I can barely take care of myself.

Can you suggest the perfect Birthday Gift for a guy?
It's my husband's birthday in a couple of weeks and I am fresh out of ideas for a gift.
He's a clean-cut, laid-back guy who loves street car racing, NHRA sport compacts and Suzuki Hayabusa. He's not a fan of anything else except Racing.
He's also THE handyman, which I love, meaning he loves tools.
I've given him perfumes, iPod, clothe, a sports car, wallets, shoes, cds, u name it.
Help!!!
Can you suggest the perfect Birthday Gift for a guy?
Dear cutest,
There are some pretty exotic tools and specialty tools out there, but unless you know his desire, you'll probably disappoint him with most of them.
There are schools where they train stock car drivers. They teach all kinds of maneuvers and skills and he would come out knowing all kinds of cool stuff. It would be fun and he would be less likely to screw up in his sports car.
Just a thought. Here's a link to one in South Carolina.

Reply:Just give him a loving kiss and nothing else
Reply:Buy him a Gym membership
Reply:Sex. really. It's what he wants. Trust me on this one. I'm a guy... I know.
Reply:Take him out for man food (Barbeque, serious Mexican, Steak etc..). Then bring your A-game to the bedroom and set.
Reply:Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.
Reply:set a perfect date on his bday....make reservations at a nice restaurant that u both love....and give him something u made with ur hands ...cud be just a card or a sexy pic of u in a photo frame ...and have fun that night ..try something new that night ... he likes that u wudnt normally do while having sex.

I want to become vegan?
I've been thinking about this for a while. I still have a few questions.
How can I be a healthy vegan?
I know that vegans tend to lack in vitamins if they are no eating what they should be. What foods should I be eating? I need to know what foods will be good for me to eat. I have been a vegitarian for a year. I want to make sure I'm getting all of the nutrients I should be getting.
What are things that vegans shouldn't be doing?
I know how the circus' mistreat the animals, so vegans refuse to go to the circus. Animals are our friends and not for our entertainment.
Can I still play sports?
I love to play sports. I play soccer, basketball and softball. I know like in the things you use for the sports, i.e shoes, gloves, the ball, are made from leather. Would I still be considered vegan if I play them? Since I have been considering veganism for a while, I refuse to buy new cleats and such. COuld I still use my old cleats and gloves even though they are made from leather?
I want to become vegan?
Oh lord! You are asking a bunch of hippies if you can play sports?!?!
Why not ask what type of bong is best, where to get Phish tickets or if it is OK to still hug your mom when she makes meatloaf every Sunday?
Play sports and enjoy your life. Be vegan if you think it will make your life healthier, although I can see clearly that you have questions of your own about how healthy the lifestyle is. Seems to me that you are young and looking to impress someone with this. If I am wrong, sorry, but reading your question tells a lot.
You are not ready, and it seems to me you are smart enough to see that there are some pretty silly attachments to what is essentially a bad diet.
Please, don't stop playing soccer and baseball if you love it. I love playing frisbee and I would like to smoke a joint, but I wouldn't change my life for the people I have played frisbee and smoked joints with.
Reply:my cousin is a vegan and shes still the same person. your vegan if you don't eat any meats or animal products but i think you can still wear leather and be considered vegan.
Reply:Congratulation! Becoming a vegan is one of the best thing you can do for reduce exploitation and suffering in this world. Vegan are not lack in vitamins, not more than other people, I would say probably less. The only vitamin who is not easy to find in a vegan diet is B12. Some people dont need to eat B12, some need to find a little of B12 in their food, not on a daily basis, not even weekly basis, but maybe month basis. So eating sometimes a supplement could be good.
Yes you can still play sports. Sure you can. Why not? Sport is good. The only thing, is to not buy anmyore animal products, clothes, balls, etc... You can find anything in "animal friendly" products. As vegan we are doing a "boycott" of every company who earn money on animals exploitation. This is the way we reducing suffering, because less products sells, mean less animals exploited. This is logical... no?
Good luck. Read books. Be informed. Be ready to answer questions of ignorant peoples. They will always try to find the weak point. To find something illogical in your lifestyle. Just show them that you are maybe not always logical, but you do your best to be in accordance with your belives.
Happy new year.

The main concern for vegans is getting a reliable source of vitamin B12. It wouldn't hurt to take a B12 supplement so you don't have to worry about eating lots of B12-supplemented foods.
Some people are vegan only in terms of their diet. If you want to be vegan as a lifestyle, you will want to avoid animal-tested products, clothing derived from animals (such as fur, leather, and wool), and entertainment that exploits animals (such as circuses and rodeos). You can certainly keep playing sports, and you would still be considered vegan if you used your old leather sports clothing/gear.
For cruelty-free clothing (including cleats and baseball gloves), see: http://www.peta.org/living/alt4.asp
Good luck!
Reply:I agree with K Mac! You are just aware of things, and you try your best to live without the use of animals, and any suffering that your actions may cause (not just to animals, but people and even yourself too!). So play sports, but know that if there is not a vegan ball (which there are by the way. Leather for balls are too expensive and they are made of nasty petroleum plastics materials now) then I always say thank you for the life that was taken and honor it by playing (cause if my life was taken from me, it would be a lot to know that it was bringing joy to an innocent out there). I tried to go to a zoo last year and was just miserable seeing all these wild animals so docile or paceing back and forth with not where to run. And a field trip to the farm with my son was torture for us both! To see the cows chained to the milking stalls and checking out the feed to see if it was just oats but there was so much stuff in it (recycled cow parts?) made us feel frustrated because of our views.
Healthy is to eat the colors of the rainbow every day. Of course green should be there a couple of times a day. Orange and yellow should also be there, and red is good too. Then I just cycle beans, grains, nuts for protein. I add the flaxseed meal/oil for the Omegas that are needed for brain power (walnuts have the Omegas too). I also add Vitamin D during the winter since the sun doesn't come out enough for our body's make it from the sunshine on our skin. And Methyl-B12 from VegLife to get our B12 (although our nutritional yeast from KAL has supplemental B12 in it also. Cereals, even granola (processed/store bought) has it), but you don't need to worry about B12 deficiency till you have been vegan for 3 to 5 years as your liver can store it for this long.
I will advise you that giving up cheese may be hard and it will test your will power as the casein in it is addictive and you will crave it. It took me a couple of months to get over it. So good planning will help (like have something else ready to eat when you crave the cheese. Dark chocolate was my motivator).
Welcome aboard! Thank you for your choice of going vegan! Viva la evolution to a peaceful compassionate world.
Reply:I gotta say I don't really understand the answer above mine -- I don't think that your question is at all indicative of 'not being ready,' or 'wanting to impress.' You're a newbie and have legit questions. I'm a newbie too and have my own! :)
As for the sports -- I think that you're still a vegan if you play. You can make an effort to find a faux-leather ball or vegan shoes/cleats to play in (and I wish you luck), but as any Vegan will likely tell you -- it's near impossible to be 100% animal-free.
Even if you don't drive a car (your tires have animal byproducts), you'd still have to take a bus, or occasionally ride in a plane, or take prescription medicine... none of those things are necessarily cruelty-free. All you can do is do your BEST within your means. Does that mean giving up sports? No. Just try and fine alternatives first. If you can't, then you can't -- and it's a personal decision you have to make. You can still live the rest of your life as veganly as possible.
As for food, I've been helped immensely by experimenting with recipes! Get 'Skinny ***** in the Kitch' -- but use an 'i' not a '!' -- or 'Vegan with a Vengeance' -- both of these cookbooks offer great ideas for making easy, cheap, animal-free meals. Once you get the hang of a few of the recipes, you'll start to have your own ideas of what to make. Also, a lot of regular recipes can be veganized -- substitute meats with fake meats, dairy with soy-based "dairy", etc. You should also take your vitamins daily -- but especially be aware of taking both Iron and Vitamin B-12! Several websites (like vuru.com) will allow you to come up with a customizable vitamin packs. (Just look up 'vegan') in the search field.
And yes -- circuses are no-no. Zoos too. And products that test on animals / contain animal byproducts. Peta has an extensive list.
Good luck!

Can shoe size and elevation determine how fast you'll get tired when running?
I recently bought some running shoes and thought that they might be good because they were on the main counters and not on the clearance section. But it was about an inch too big for me and the elevation was very high (about 3 inches) almost like a heel. Everytime I wear those shoes and play sports, I always feel like I'm lumbering and slow, and I get tired very easily. But when I wear my very old dirty shoes, I feel fast and I have more endurance. How can this be? How can an old tattered shoe be better than a brand new running shoes?
Can shoe size and elevation determine how fast you'll get tired when running?
I used to work in a sneaker store andone of the main problems people have is sizing. They don't buy the correct size sneaker. If you wear sneakers that are to lose you will lose support. Your feet will slide around in the shoe making it hard to perform. It will also cause blisters to form because of the constant rubbing as a result of the poor fit. If the sneaker is too small your toes will hit the front of the shoe which can cause your toenails to turn black and possibly fall off. This is very painful thus again making it hard to perform. The other thing to take into consideration is that everyone has different types of feet. We all fall within four groups. Flat feet, high-arched feet, pronation and superpronation. Flat footed peoples entire sole hit the ground upon impact. High arched people's impact is mainly on the balls and heels of the foot. People with pronation, their feet turn /slant inward. Supernation is when the feet turn/slant outward. Most people don't take these factors into consideration. My suggestion would be to go to a reputable sneaker store that has associates that are knowlegeable specifically about running sneakers. Some stores even have devices that you can stand on and it will actually tell you what type of feet you have. I would recommend looking in to the Asics line of running shoe. They have specific sneakers for each type of foot and severity. They are excellent. Other brands I would sugesst would be Mizuno and then Saucony. I'm pretty brand loyal to Nike, but they have few performance running shoes that hold up and deal with specific foot types. Stay away from the Shox. They're fashionable but they fall apart easily. I know this was a bit long-winded but I hope it help. Good luck.
Reply:I must say that I have a hard time believing that the shoe has a 3-inch heel. However, it seems that you are dealing with the weight of the shoe. Some running shoe catalogs will post the weight of the shoe, using size 9 as the standard.
An inch too big? You need to check the fit before you leave the store or have a clerk there do it for you.
Being too big can affect how you run because the shoe won't crease properly when your foot bends.
You should have no more than a thumbnail of space between your big toe and the end of the shoe. The ball of your foot should be sitting at the widest part of the shoe. If you cannot assess that, buy from stores that have qualified salespeople.
Reply:YES THEY BOTH MAKE A DIFFERENCE, BUT IF YOUR IN A PRISON IN DENVER WITH WORK BOOTS ON AND MIKE TYSON IS CHASING YOU SCREAMING COME HERE DESIREE THESE 2 FACTORS WILL NOT COME TO PLAY.

How can I help my 9 year old boy with his friends?
He is very reliable to his father an I and to his younger brother and sister. Excellent grades, helpful at help with the normal amount of grumbling before he does it. But he cries that no one likes him and he gets made fun of. He is a good looking boy, wears regular t-shirts and jeans, name brand shoes. Plays sports well. He gets along ok with younger kids, but not with kids his own age. Also, he is 9 and in the 4th grade, so he is one of the younger kids. but he is also 4'8. He is the type to go up to anyone and start talking. I think he is well rounded kid, and all other parents have said what a great, polite kid he is. What is going on? He doesn't have even one friend at school and he is ALWAYS being teased!
How can I help my 9 year old boy with his friends?
Well i am 12 years old and I use to have the same problem. I think i was babied too much and my mom made it seem like everything i did was perfect and that i do a perfect job on everything. If you compliment on one little thing some is wearing or does it will help a whole lot.
Reply:You need to find out specifically what they're teasing him about. When I was a kid I got harrassed for all sorts of things, but the main thing that stuck out was that I didn't have any social skills appropriate to my age-group. I got along well with older kids and adults, but not kids my own age. You might consider observing him around other kids (when they don't know of course) and see exactly what's going on.
Reply:What I would do is set up meeting with his teacher at the school to put a stop to the teasing. If you don't this could really affect his self-esteem. Continue to encourage him remind him of who he is. Also, when you talk to the teacher see what she thinks and if there's a possibility that he could actually be the teaser. You never know but it really does help to hear it from the teacher. Take some of her advice and take it from there. The main thing is that you tell him how wonderful he is.
Reply:My team had a similar situation with a student that transferred in from a foreign country. The student's step mother called me and as teachers, we introduced him to students that we thought may get along with him or have lunch with him.
Reply:Get him into boyscouts, adventure club, or something of that nature where he has additional fun time outside of school environment so he can work on his social skills and bonding with his classmates, also this give you a chance to watch how he behaves if you choose to stick around/help out with the meetings and you can correct his behavior on site/provide encouragement as needed. Maybe he is just being too hard on himself, I've seen kids do that at a very young age for no particular reason, it's best to just keep encouraging him and giving him extra opportunites to bond with kids his age. Good Luck.
Reply:there is nothing wrong with just having younger friends until you mix better with your peers. take him on outings where he might meet people outside of his school to socialize him. He'll be fine, very few will be popular right away =) you could also try putting him in a christian school, they are great with those issues.

Can I wear jeans when going to a lounge that has a dress code of upscale casual?
I am going to a birthday party with my new coworkers and the dress code for the lounge is upscale casual. It used to be a wine and cigar lounge in dc, but its I guess its not anymore. Anyway I don't feel like wearing a polo shirt with khakis, sweater or something along those lines. Which is what I was told to wear by someone who also has no clue.
I usually wear a dress shirt with jeans and dress shoes, a sports coat if I feel like it. I was told that it was a bad idea to wear any kind of jeans at places like this since the doormen tend to be D!cks. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Oh and if you have pics of what I should be wearing that would help.

i've worked at some upscale lounges in toronto, and here everyone wears jeans. make sure the jeans u choose are nice, dark washes look dressier. wear a shirt (either graphic t-shirt/ polo/ dress shirt) with a blazer over and nice shoes.
if you are really unsure if jeans are okay, just call the club ahead of time and ask!!
Reply:If they have a dress code of that nature, jeans may not be the best choice. It would totally ruin your day/evening if you have to go home to change.
You could wear some other kind of pants. Or a skirt of some sort.

Racist/Prejudiced Experiences in Chicago?
I am just wondering if anyone has a personal story about any racist or prejudiced treatment they received in Chicago. This weekend , my friends and I were walking down North ave trying to find a good bar/club to go to. My black friend could not get into this one club because his pants wer too baggy. In fact they were even dress pants with dress shoes and sports coat (he had just come from a wedding). My friend is a sociology major so this intriqued her. She had her white male friend come out of a bar he was already in and try to get into this same club that my friend had been denied entrance into. This white male was wearing dark blue baggy jeans and was allowed entrance. We did not say anything to the bouncer but we were all very upset. Should this be reported? Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Racist/Prejudiced Experiences in Chicago?
Chicago is interesting in the sense that if you don't look like you belong, its made very clear to you. I think you should contact the manager and if they don't handle it, go to the City department that handles liquor licenses and also possibly contact the alderman in that area. It gets people's attention pretty quickly.
Also, be sure to find out who the actual owner of the building is, not just the "owner" of the club. Tell them what is going on, and be sure to bring it to the attention of promotions groups in the area and to DJ's. Word can travel fast, especially if its not good.
Whether you're black, white or whatever, if you don't look like you should be there (although that doesn't seem to be the case in your situation- the bouncer just seemed to be a racist prick), you will be subject to different treatment. For example, I'm white, but have a plethora of friends- many of whom are black and latino. I've been pulled over in the West side for being white, harassed in humbolt park when I didn't blend in enough, and blatantly disrespected and called awful names because I'm white at a "black" or "latino" club.
The racism in Chicago runs both ways, and be sure to remember that.
Do what you must to bring this crap to attention though. Because if no one does anything, it will continue without any resistance. Good for you for speaking out.
Reply:Not only should you and your friend report this but you and your friends should sue this club as well. That's not fair what happened. sadly, these types of things does go on. I'm rich and it happens to me to. I was in New York shoe store. I didn't realize at the time that I was the only black person in there. I had two boxes of shoes in my hand and it didn't cost much. Totaling about $4,000.00.The white woman racking up shoes stared at me the whole time. I didn't realize what she was doing until one of my body guards told me. They all looked at us in disgust. I felt so ashamed to the point that I felt like I had stole something while purchasing my two boxes of shoes. Once I payed for my purchase the salesman threw my platinum card back at me. Even though I am dark skin you would think that they would treat me better than that since I'm wealthy. When I got home and told my mother she said i should of just walked out of the store. For now on when I'm feeling discriminated against im just gonna walk out of the store. I just hate how they thought that i was gonna steal something.I have never felt that way before. Even tough you experienced a different situation I know how it feels.
Reply:A couple of years back I went to go see Bones (Snoop Dogg's horror movie) at a movie theater I always go to and I kid you not, my friends and I were heckled by EVERY black person in the theater for being white. Even the black people as old as my parents were making rude comments at me. It's not like I was in a theater that was in an all black neighborhood where it would be odd to see a few white kids at the show, it was in at 600 north Michigan, right in downtown Chicago.
There also used to be a tiny little Hispanic grocery store down the street from me that I shopped at a few times. Once I had the gaul to call there to see if they carried Coke or Pepsi and they hung up on me for speaking English. I called back because I thought it was a mistake or something, and they hung up on me again! Then they just flat out refused to pick up the phone.
So yeah, there are racist people all over the place. I happen to think that the "segragation" in the city is in a way a good thing. Would there be a Chinatown if whites, blacks, and hispanics all moved into the neighborhood? No. That's why we don't have an Italian neighborhood in Chicago anymore, we have a street. "Segragation" is a bad word, here people are just living how they're comfortable and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Reply:This is not my own personal experience, but that of a friend from high school (a black male) who had a pretty bad experience with a cop from out here in the 'burbs-big shock there, right?
I knew this guy since third grade, and he was always a really nice guy. One day he borrowed his mom's car, I think it was a Lexus, so it was not a cheapo car, to drive some of his friends home after basketball practice. They were pulled over for--get this--mob activity! Apparently it was illegal for 4 or more people to be in a vehicle together. No one was really able to wrap their heads around that, since it was highly unlikely that a group of white kids would be stopped for that. The cop proceeded to perform an illegal search on the vehicle, not believing my friend when he said it was his mom's car and he had permission to use it. The cop assumed it was stolen. While he searched the car he kept saying "I know I'm gonna find drugs or guns in here." Of course he found no such thing. He eventually had to let them go. But to the best of my knowledge no action was ever taken against the cop.
Reply:Yes, as was said by the other person, Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in the U.S. I've lived in the Chicago area my whole life and people can be pretty racist. Usually you just notice little things like not getting jobs when you go to an interview and are just as, or more qualified than the next person, retail sales people following you around, etc. But these are things that happen in all cities.
Once my sister said that her and some friends were downtown and some homeless lady was shouting at them telling them to "go back where you came from" and they weren't behaving unruly or anything. My sister and her friends are not even like that. They carry themselves very respectably.
Of course, those types of things can happen anywhere but the fact that there is a significantly obvious geographic racial divide in Chicago (Whites North of Downtown, Blacks south of Downtown, and a mixture of Blacks and Mexicans West of Downtown) show that Chicago has a serious issue with racism. Unfortunately, it seems that the issue is never really addressed. Everyone just wants to talk about how great the museums and the food are.
Reply:Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in America. Very few neighborhoods are what is considered "diversified." They are mostly divided by race. When a person of color moves to a "white" neighborhood, the entire white population leaves. Look at Bellwood or Franklin Park or Oak Park or Austin as examples.
